Solitarily situated in a small cove since 1794. Smugglers took advantage of Ardbegs remote location, using it as a stage for illegal distillation. Its chief water source, Loch Uigeadail (pronounced "Oog-a-dal") means ‘Dark & Mysterious Place’ in Gaelic.
The nose opens sweetly with vanilla, developing to liquorice, soft chewy tar, and warm malt. Tasting builds to rock pools, a satisfyingly warming smoked quality, memories of chimney soot. Excellent lengthy finale of brilliant beach bonfire ashes and sweet cuban cigar smoke.
