Miyagikyo Aromatic Yeast is the second limited-edition release in the "Discovery" series, introduced by Japan's Nikka Whisky in 2022. The distillery utilized a special yeast capable of producing a distinctive fruitiness during fermentation and bottled the expression at 47% ABV, shattering the public's established flavor impressions of Miyagikyo.

While maintaining Miyagikyo’s elegant style, it brings out mature fruit flavors of peach, pear, and banana, accompanied by subtle hints of musk and Comté cheese aromas. The palate delivers a bready, baked sensation alongside apricot fruitiness and honeyed sweetness, leading to a finish filled with fresh herbs, spices, floral notes, and a very subtle touch of smoke.

To realize his vision of blending diverse whiskies, Masataka Taketsuru established Miyagikyo Distillery in 1969 in a lush Sendai gorge. It introduced the traditional Coffey Still—an older continuous distillation method chosen for its ability to retain delicate aromas and sweetness from the grain.

Miyagikyo whiskies are known for their soft, fruity profiles, offering a contrast to the bold peat of Yoichi. Often described as Lowland-style, Miyagikyo plays a vital role in the balance of Nikka’s blended expressions.
