Royal Lochnagar
Royal Lochnagar, adjacent to the Balmoral Estate, received its Royal Warrant in 1848 after a visit from Queen Victoria. Despite its small size—with just two stills and worm tubs—the distillery emphasizes slow distillation and warm copper interaction, yielding a light spirit marked by dry grass, subtle fruit, and mid-palate depth.
Most of its robust spirit is matured in ex-Sherry casks, developing rich notes of dried fruit and nuts. Though rarely releasing a broad core range today, special editions like the Moscatel-finished Distillery Edition remain prized among collectors.
