Nagahama
Nagahama Distillery is located on the northeastern side of Lake Biwa in Nagahama City, Shiga Prefecture, Japan, and is affiliated with Nagahama Roman Beer. The initial stages of whisky production, including mashing and fermentation, take place in the brewery, while distillation begins at Nagahama Distillery. It uses Hoga Stills from Portugal, a smaller-capacity Alembic still, producing approximately 200 liters of new-make spirit per batch, enough to fill one oak barrel, following Nagahama’s unique “One brew, one barrel” method.
Their main product lines are Nagahama and Amahagan, which is Nagahama spelled backward. Nagahama is their own single malt whisky, while Amahagan is a blended series that combines whisky distilled in-house with whisky sourced from overseas.
