新道 Shindo 4 Year Old 2022 for Casky & TRM MahJong Series "Sparrow" Cask 10226

Following the earlier release of "East" by local whisky bar Casky, our shop has partnered with Casky to select "Sparrow" (Bird Bam) as the latest addition to the MahJong series. This release also comes from the young Shindo Distillery, using non-peated malt and matured in a Virgin American White Oak Hogshead.

Matured for over 4 years in Fukuoka's warm and humid climate, the whisky offers both strength and nuance. The nose opens with distinct sea salt caramel, accompanied by notes of vanilla, popcorn, and crème brûlée, underpinned by subtle hints of toasted wood and spices that support the sweet aromas. The sweetness immediately bursts onto the palate, perfectly aligning with the nose. Its oily and full-bodied texture ensures that, even with the high 58.4% Abv, there is no harsh alcohol burn. The finish leaves lingering woody notes, alongside soft touches of tobacco and roasted elements. The Virgin Oak Hogshead integrates beautifully with Shindo's spirit, offering a sweet profile reminiscent of American Bourbon but without the overly heavy spiciness; the well-measured oak influence keeps it pleasantly sweet without being cloying.

In the traditional hand-carved Mahjong industry, the "Sparrow" is often regarded as one of the most demanding tiles for a craftsman. Similarly, this young single cask expression perfectly showcases the capability and versatility of Shindo Distillery. As with the previous release, "Sparrow" is available in both 700ml and 200ml, and both sizes will include a complimentary set of two Mahjong tiles.
