Ardbeg 17 Year Old

After many years, the Ardbeg 17 Year Old, which was discontinued in 2004, has been re-released. This new version was created by Dr. Bill and Master Blender, Gillian Macdonald, with the slogan "The Legend Returns.” Like the original version, this Ardbeg 17 Year Old features gentle peat smoke. Bottled at 40% ABV, which indicates that Ardbeg has once again rarely used chill-filtration.

Distillery Manager, Colin Gordon, describes this Ardbeg as having a floral, mineral, and a hint of herbal notes, accompanied by a sweet undertone.

Ardbeg

Ardbeg is one of the most iconic peated distilleries on the Isle of Islay, Scotland. Officially registered in 1815, its intensely smoky and herbal character has long captivated whisky enthusiasts. Located on the southern coast of Islay near Laphroaig and Lagavulin, Ardbeg also benefits from abundant peaty water sources. Though the distillery faced multiple closures in its history, it was revived in 1997 after being acquired by the Glenmorangie Company, steadily rebuilding its distinct identity and cultivating a passionate global fanbase. Today, its core expressionsβ€”Ardbeg 10 Year Old, Uigeadail, and Corryvreckanβ€”are celebrated for their bold peat, deep complexity, and oily texture, setting the standard for modern peated whiskies.

Beyond the spirit itself, Ardbeg is also known for its playful and creative marketingβ€”such as the annual β€œArdbeg Day” and experimental releases linked to space researchβ€”which have earned it worldwide attention. The distillery continues to use traditional equipment and handcrafted processes, preserving its signature style. Whether you're new to peated whisky or a seasoned fan of intense flavors, Ardbeg is a must-visit destination.
