Balvenie 17 Year Old the Week of Peat - The Rare Malt

Balvenie 17 Year Old the Week of Peat

For one week each year, Balvenie distills a batch using peated malt. They produce it using a peat-burner with Speyside peat, targeting phenol levels similar to those of Laphroaig and Ardbeg (30ppm). This gives rise to the Week of Peat.

The aroma has sweet peat smoke with floral hints, butterscotch and honey. The taste combines peat smoke with citrus, oak vanilla, and honey. Ending with a smoky finish and vanilla sweetness.

Balvenie

Balvenie is one of the few remaining distilleries in Scotland that still performs all traditional processes on-site—including growing its own barley, floor malting, maintaining its copper stills, and having its own cooperage. Located in Dufftown and founded by William Grant in 1892, Balvenie is renowned for its warm, honeyed character and notes of oak, embodying the delicate and balanced style of Speyside. Popular expressions like the Balvenie Dou...

A standout feature of Balvenie is its multiple cask maturation approach. For example, the DoubleWood begins aging in Bourbon casks before being finished in Sherry casks, enhancing roundness and aromatic depth. The core range is crafted by David Stewart, Balvenie’s longtime Malt Master and a pioneer of multi-cask maturation in the whisky world. By blending tradition with innovation, Balvenie consistently delivers single malt expressions that are rich in character and exceptionally well balanced.
