Chorlton Whisky - Tullibardine 13 Year Old

Chorlton Whisky's first release of 2025 features three distilleries from the Highland region. This release includes Balblair, a distillery not commonly seen from independent bottlers, a Glen Garioch matured in a first-fill Bourbon, and a Tullibardine finished in an ex-peated whisky Barrique!

The aroma of the Tullibardine is surprisingly layered, reminiscent of creamy coffee cake, nuts, toffee, a touch of banana and sweet orange juice, followed by a gentle hint of smoke. On the palate, a burst of various fruit and candy sweetness, getting into licorice and a subtle coffee note. The finish initially is slightly funky, then shifts to spice, and finally, the peat smoke makes its appearance.

Tullibardine

Tullibardine, located in Blackford, evolved from a centuries-old brewing site into a modern distillery in 1949. Originally known for producing a light, nutty whisky for blends, the site was revitalized in the 21st century to focus on single malts.

With improved fermentation and distillation processes and the use of fresh casks, the style has shifted toward floral and fruity notes. Today’s range, including expressions like Sovereign and 225 Sauternes Finish, reflects this modern, wood-driven complexity.

Chorlton Whisky

The whisky which I picked to bottle, is something I’m excited about and want to drink. Everything else is secondary, but I’d prefer to release “drinkable whisky” rather than anything expensive or rare.’ David Bennett, the founder of Chorlton Whisky told us.

It is never easy to strike a balance among quality of whisky, label design and price, no matter it is an official or independent bottling. However, we discovered that Chorlton Whisky was doing something different. David said, ‘Initially I thought it would be fun to have something unique to share. The ethos now, though, is trying to make single cask whisky a bit more accessible.
