Francois Peyrot 63 Year Old 1961 Heritage Lot 61 Cognac

Francois Peyrot 63 Year Old 1961 Heritage Lot 61 Cognac

From Grande Champagne, Cognac’s premier cru, this Heritage Lot 61 was produced from Ugni Blanc grapes and laid down for maturation by Mathilde Peyrot in 1961, before finally being bottled in 2024. Most remarkably, it spent the full 63 years maturing entirely in French Oak, without ever being transferred into demijohns or diluted with water, and was eventually bottled at its natural strength of 43.8% ABV.

Reference Tasting Notes:
Nose: Deep and complex, with candied fruit, prunes and gentle vanilla. Toasted nuts, refined spices and mature oak are complemented by dried floral notes and the distinctive Rancio* character associated with exceptionally old Cognac.
Palate: Rounded and velvety, with ripe fruit, prunes and candied citrus. Vanilla and toasted nuts gradually give way to warm spices, refined oak and beautifully developed Rancio* notes.
Finish: Exceptionally long and harmonious, with dried fruit, nuts and gentle spices. Elegant oak and refined Rancio* linger impressively.

* Rancio is a distinctive mature character that gradually develops in Cognac through prolonged oak ageing, often showing notes reminiscent of nuts, mushrooms and forest floor.
