Chichibu Distillery II is the inaugural single malt release from Chichibu’s second distillery since it commenced production in late 2019. The specifications of the second distillery differ significantly from the original: it has switched entirely to direct-fired stills and incorporates additional fermentation vats made of French oak.

Founded by Ichiro Akuto in 2008, Chichibu Distillery is Japan’s first new independent distillery in over 35 years and is credited with launching the country’s craft whisky movement. Located in Saitama Prefecture, Chichibu’s climate—with hot summers and freezing winters—enhances maturation, resulting in fruity and well-balanced whiskies even at a young age.

The distillery is dedicated to local craftsmanship, handling everything from barley growing and floor malting to on-site cooperage by hand. Using direct-fired Forsyths pot stills, Chichibu releases a wide range of limited-edition and experimental bottlings, making it a favorite among enthusiasts worldwide.
