Cask Islay - Islay 10 Year Old Cask Strength Special Edition

Scottish independent bottler A.D. Rattray first introduced the Cask Islay Sherry Edition in 2019. Seven years later, the company has returned with a new release, this time featuring a 10-year age statement and an intensified Oloroso sherry cask influence. Cask Islay is sourced from an undisclosed Islay distillery, and this edition is released as a Small Batch.

This 10-year-old expression combines whiskies with two different maturation methods. The first parcel was initially matured for nine and a half years in rejuvenated Refill Sherry Butts, before being transferred into five First-Fill Oloroso Sherry Butts for an 18-month finish. The second parcel underwent full maturation in thirteen Oloroso-Seasoned Ex-Wine Barriques. These barriques came from Spanish sherry producer Bodegas Hidalgo – La Gitana and were personally selected by A.D. Rattray representatives during a visit to Jerez in 2010. They were then seasoned with Oloroso Faraon sherry for approximately two years.

Official Tasting Notes:
Nose: Fruity aromas of blood orange and blackberry, accompanied by rich coastal smoke.
Palate: Dark cherry, tangy marmalade and caramelised nut praline.
Finish: Long and warming, with lingering spiced blackberry jam and a subtle hint of gentle ash.
