Chorlton Whisky - Inchfad 13 Year Old 2007 - The Rare Malt

Chorlton Whisky - Inchfad 13 Year Old 2007

Inchfad, which is also Loch Lomond, a peated one. It has aroma with floral smoke, rye bread, some sour fruits and  Islay-ish medicinal notes. On the palate, lemony and smokily briny, with a fair bit of sweetness, with notes of almond brittle, tar, engine oil and  fishing boats. The finish is slightly salty, with lingering earthy and tarry smoke.

Loch Lomond

Founded in 1966, Loch Lomond is one of the few distilleries in Scotland capable of producing both single malt and single grain whiskies on site. It operates a wide range of still types—including traditional swan neck pot stills, Lomond stills with rectifying plates, and a Coffey still—allowing it to produce up to 11 distinct distillate styles. This level of versatility is rare in Scotland and resembles a Japanese approach to whisky making.

The distillery’s output includes brands such as Croftengea, Inchmoan, and Inchmurrin, ranging from light and fruity to heavily peated styles. Since being acquired by Exponent Private Equity in 2014, Loch Lomond has refined its branding and expanded its range, gaining more international recognition. Though not open to the public, it stands as a symbol of innovation and diversity in Scotch whisky production.

Chorlton Whisky

The whisky which I picked to bottle, is something I’m excited about and want to drink. Everything else is secondary, but I’d prefer to release “drinkable whisky” rather than anything expensive or rare.’ David Bennett, the founder of Chorlton Whisky told us.

It is never easy to strike a balance among quality of whisky, label design and price, no matter it is an official or independent bottling. However, we discovered that Chorlton Whisky was doing something different. David said, ‘Initially I thought it would be fun to have something unique to share. The ethos now, though, is trying to make single cask whisky a bit more accessible.
