This single cask was specially selected by La Maison du Whisky to commemorate its 70th anniversary. Distilled in 1991, it comes from GlenDronach’s pre-closure era, before the distillery ceased production in 1996. At the time, GlenDronach was still using traditional direct coal-fired heating to distil its spirit, in contrast to the steam heating used today. This older production method has helped make these pre-closure vintages particularly sought after among whisky collectors and enthusiasts.

Matured for 34 years in First-Fill Oloroso Sherry Puncheon #1766, it was bottled at 49.4% Cask Strength, with only 294 bottles released. The extended Oloroso maturation brings a mature and deeply sherried character. LMDW’s Tasting Notes mention aromas of apricot, blood orange and dark berries, accompanied by dark chocolate, sandalwood and leather. Tropical fruits emerge on the palate, while the finish brings notes of tobacco, toffee, candied ginger and dried fruits, creating a rich and finely layered profile.

GlenDronach

Established in 1826, Glendronach is one of the few Highland distilleries that continues to embrace a traditional production style. Its equipment includes wooden washbacks and uniquely shaped stills, creating a heavy-bodied spirit with strong character. The distillery is best known for its extensive use of Sherry casks, with some expressions matured entirely in ex-Sherry wood, delivering rich layers of dried fruit, spice, and chocolate.

Following several changes in ownership, Glendronach was acquired by the BenRiach Distilling Co. in 2008 and relaunched with a core range of 12-, 15-, and 18-year-old whiskies, followed by numerous limited cask-strength releases. For fans of Sherried styles and traditional whisky, Glendronach remains a compelling destination.
