Whiskyland - Springbank 26 Year Old 1998 Chapter One

After releasing 100 editions of the Whisky Sponge series, British independent bottler Decadent Drinks launched its new Whiskyland series in 2024, conceived as a collection of 100 Chapters. The inaugural Chapter One features a 26-year-old Springbank distilled in 1998, marking the beginning of this new series.

This Springbank was matured entirely in a First-Fill Sherry Butt for 26 years before being bottled at 56.8% Cask Strength, with a total of 550 bottles produced. It received 94 points from Whiskyfun and 92 points from WhiskyNotes, with both reviewers highlighting rich notes of tobacco, tar, leather and smoke, alongside the fruity sweetness of Sherry cask maturation, showcasing the complexity of well-aged Springbank.

Reference Tasting Notes:
Nose: Pine resin and burnt wood, followed by mango, raisins, pipe tobacco and cigar box aromas, accompanied by notes of tar and liquorice.
Palate: An oily mouthfeel, with pepper, leather, cigar, Amontillado-like Sherry notes and salted butter caramel. With water, orange liqueur, milk chocolate and salted liquorice emerge.
Finish: Exceptionally long, with salted caramel, tobacco, leather and blood orange, followed by pronounced smokiness and a slight astringency.
