Craigellachie 13 Year Old - The Rare Malt

Craigellachie 13 Year Old

Built in 1891 in Banffshire at the very heart of Speyside, between Rothes and Dufftown this distillery can be found perched high upon the rock of Craigellachie.
A gentle earthiness on the nose along with soft notes of almonds, granny smith, raisins, a hint of vanilla pods. In the mouth a clean malty character leads soft herbs, almost slightly smoky. Unexpectedly long finish of candied sugar, and white grapefruit zest.

Craigellachie

Craigellachie Distillery was founded in 1891 in the village of the same name in Speyside. It stands out for its bold and meaty style, contrasting with the typically soft and floral profile of many Speyside whiskies. Known for its sulfurous notes and tropical fruit complexity, Craigellachie owes much of its distinctive character to the use of worm tub condensers, which preserve more sulfur compounds and heavier oils in the spirit.

Although historically used in blends, Craigellachie has recently been rebranded and launched as a single malt with expressions like the Craigellachie 13 and 17 Year Old. These whiskies have drawn attention from seasoned drinkers for their bold and assertive style. Now owned and operated by Bacardi under the Dewar’s portfolio, Craigellachie represents one of the few Speyside malts that proudly embraces a heavier, more traditional whisky character.
