Glengoyne 16 Year Old Mizunara Oak

This Glengoyne 16 Year Old was first matured in First-fill Sherry and Refill Casks for 10 years, before being matured in Mizunara Oak casks for a further 6 years of maturation. With a total production of only 3,195 bottles, the first time Glengoyne featured Mizunara oak maturation.

Mizunara casks are notoriously difficult to craft, carry high risks during the maturation process, and are exceptionally expensive; Distillery Manager Robbie Hughes mentioned that the cost is around 10 times that of American oak casks. Unlike the American or European oak commonly used in maturing whisky, Mizunara oak—while having a lower level of tannins—imparts a more pronounced vanilla sweetness and a unique sandalwood aroma to the spirit.

With 6 years of full Mizunara cask maturation, this is not a brief finish for gimmick, nor does it use "Mizunara Heads" (where only the ends of the barrel are made of Mizunara). It is a truly sincere release.
