The Rare Malt and Maltbarn have teamed up to present this 18-year-old Orkney whisky, matured in a bourbon cask. The nose offers aromas of citrus, green apple, unripe mango, and cream. On the palate, it is sweet with an oily texture, gradually revealing bitter woody notes and a refreshing herbal coolness. The finish lingers with orange peel, oakiness tones, and a late-emerging hint of tobacco smoke. This is a "slow-burn" whisky—its aromas become significantly more prominent a few weeks after opening.

As for the gentleman depicted on the label, friends who have visited our shop can probably guess who he is. It’s a leading figure in Vocal Jazz whose music we play most frequently here; the trumpet in his hand is a big tip-off. Highland Park

Highland Park’s origins are cloaked in legend, with its founding marked in 1798 but with various accounts of its early ownership. Located in Kirkwall on the Orkney Islands, the distillery expanded under James Grant in the late 19th century and is now owned by Edrington. It continues to use traditional floor malting and lightly peated malt (under 3ppm), creating a signature balance of gentle smoke and honeyed sweetness.

Signature expressions include 12 and 18-year-olds, as well as limited editions inspired by Norse mythology. With warehouse capacity for 28,000 Sherry casks, Highland Park offers deep maturation character and has become a favorite among whisky enthusiasts worldwide.

Maltbarn

Maltbarn is an independent bottling brand founded by German whisky enthusiast and photographer Martin Diekmann, focusing on selecting and bottling high-quality single cask whiskies. Unlike commercially driven brands, Maltbarn emphasizes personal taste and integrity—Martin only bottles what he truly loves. This selective and honest approach has earned the brand a loyal following among seasoned collectors.

In addition to Scotch whisky, Maltbarn also bottles Cognac and rum, consistently upholding its standards of quality and transparent labeling. The minimalist bottle design often features Martin’s own nature or animal photography, reflecting the brand’s deep appreciation for natural purity.
