앗케시
Akkeshi Distillery is located in eastern Hokkaido and aims to create a Japanese interpretation of Islay-style whisky using local peat and cold climate. Founded by Kenten Jitsugyo, it began operations in 2016, with its first single malt, “Sarorunkamuy,” launched in 2020. The distillery has since released seasonal bottlings inspired by Japan’s 24 solar terms, including the 18th release “Touji,” featuring locally grown barley and grains.
What makes Akkeshi unique is its commitment to full local production—harvesting peat, using Hokkaido water, and aging on-site in dunnage warehouses. With equipment from Forsyths in Scotland, their whiskies express flavors like persimmon jelly, citrus peel, and gentle peat. Akkeshi has become a standout among Japan’s new generation of whisky makers.
